Liones Trip 2007

October 16th, 2007 by

Thursday 11 October 2007, on this memorable day, I went, together with my all of my Liones colleagues, on a trip to a carefully kept secret location. In this post, possible more posts, I will tell you all about my experiences. To ensure that I do not violate anyone’s privacy I will not provide you the names of my colleagues, I will merely refer to their (not so memorable?) actions.

I sincerely hope you like this post.

Wrecked but Happy

October 14th, 2007 by

I am going to be short today because I am so wrecked. This weekend I went on a trip with my Liones colleagues: We went to Milano and it was totally crazy and wild. We left on Thursday and came back on Saturday and I actually glued myself another wild night to that ;-) .

Further details, rest assured not all of them, will follow as soon as I can read my screen without seeing blurry dancing worms :-( . Something like the next week comes to mind.

Cheers

Long Time no See

September 19th, 2007 by

Finally, a new blog post you might think and you are right; it has been way to long since my last post: about a month. First of all: rest assured I am fine. Second: The last couple of weeks have been extremely tough: I started with my new job, broke up with my girlfriend and other activities, like: field hockey (playing and coaching).

Not, let met tell you about my new job: I now work for a company called Liones as a software developer. Liones builds websites, web portals and web applications for the publishing branch. It is a young, dynamic and growing company with about 20 employees and is located in Rijswijk. The websites they develop are based on their internally developed content management system called Lynkx, which uses a XML based script language. For more info, go to the Liones website: http://www.liones.nl.

I started working for Liones one week ago. I currently work there 2 days in the week which will become fulltime when I finished the project at Van der Werff Watertechniek. I met a lot of new people last week and I am excited to start with my first project at Liones. I will keep you updated about it.

Furthermore I want to inform you that the Specification library (mentioned it in previous posts) I was working on is currently not my top priority, so its development is postponed until further notice.

That is it for now. See you next time!

Tough Week

August 26th, 2007 by

Last was a very tough and tiring week: I had a lot on my mind and I heard a lot off bad news which has cost me a lot of energy. I am not going to tell you about because that would be a violation of the privacy of my friends. I am glad that this week is almost over; I am convinced that the following week will be better.

Luckily, it was not all bad. My brother returned home from a half year internship in Vietnam and I received I pretty descend job offer.

I am currently working on a library which implements the specification [1] pattern. I try to keep it as light weight as possible but that is not easy because I do not want to lose functionality. Expect more information about the library right here on this blog in the near future.

That is it for now, Bye.

Long Night Ahead

August 15th, 2007 by

This night will be long, very long; I will be staying up all night. You might be guessing there is a reason behind it and there is actually: There is youth camp at the local field hockey club where I am keeping an eye out for this night. Because it is basically waiting for the time to pass I have lots of time to work on my blog as well as some other things. You will see the results right here. Sleep tight!

Job Interview

August 9th, 2007 by

A couple of weeks ago I was invited for a job interview and today I went to it. It was not really a job interview actually, but rather an informal meeting. The interview was in the city of Amsterdam which is a two hour journey from Drachten where I live. The train ride to Amsterdam was smooth and comfortable; who says that the public transportation is a pain? I met an old high school friend on that train with whom I had a pleasant conversation. I arrived in Amsterdam on the expected time which left me some time to eat and relax before the interview.

The office, where I had the interview, was situated next to the river Amstel and had a great view. The interview itself went smooth; we talked about various aspects of me, my career and my résumé. The conversation was open and informal which was a pleasant experience. I gained some valuable advice on how I could improve my résumé. We agreed that when I sent my modified my résumé, he would contact the company which offers the job.

After the interview I had to go home directly, which is a shame really because Amsterdam is a beautiful city, but I have some things to take care of today. And that is where I am right now: in the training writing this post.

Yesterdays Sail Trip

August 3rd, 2007 by

Yesterday I went on a sail trip with my colleagues and friends of the DATS DATA project. We drove to Sneek where Rob had his 30m2 sail boat. We went sailing for about two hours which was really enjoying; we drank a couple of drinks and had a good conversation. The weather was very good; there was not much wind but enough to make quite some speed. After we came back we went for dinner in the local restaurant which was excellent. I really enjoyed myself that day.

Unfortunately I did not have the time to work on the Rhino Mocks articles, but today I have enough time to finish the first part.

Beautiful Music: Racoon – Love You More

August 1st, 2007 by

Today I was listing to some music made by the Dutch band Racoon [1]; They make some excellent relaxing music. I really like one song in particular: Love You More. It is really beautiful.

Here is the lyric of that song:

Clouds above go sailing by
I found my meaning in this life
clear white is flying in my eyes,
underneath a blue, blue sky
The waves come rolling in with the tide.
I’ve been away too long
and every day I missed you more.
You look like you did before,
only prettier.
Every day I love you more.

All the people rushing by, by, by
looking for meaning in this life
so used up, and blinded by lies,
They’re underneath the blue, blue sky
the way they seldom seem to smile
I don’t know why.

‘Cause I’ve been away too long
and every day I missed you more.
You look like you did before,
only prettier.
Every day I love you more
I love you more,
every day I love you more,
and more.

Cause I’ve been away too long
and every day I missed you more.
You look like you did before,
only prettier.
And every day I missed you more,
and more and more and more and more.
I’ve been away too long
and every day I missed you more
oh you look like you did before
only prettier
every day I love you more.

I love you more.
Every day I love you more

It Has Been a While

July 26th, 2007 by

That is most certainly true; my last post was about a week ago. I have been very busy, both professionally and personally. However, today I have time to write for my blog and for some projects I have been working on.

Professionally I have been very busy with re-implementing an application to leverage to power of DDD (Domain Driven Design). The application contains objects, users and permissions, the difficult part was to come up with a design to handle permissions for the different objects. At the moment the architecture is highly experimental, but when I am finished with it I will publish a sample on this weblog, so keep an eye out.

Personally I have been spending a lot of time with my girlfriend, since she is going on a 2 week holiday this weekend. This weekend I went with her, her sister and her friend on a weekend trip in Venlo. We had some great time there; I wish that could last forever. Unfortunately all good things end. Anyway, my journey to find 5 minutes beauty each day is going absolutely amazing: It gives me great joy and happiness in my life.

Today I am going to work on a very interesting new concept we came up with in a meeting last week. It is an effort to present the truth about a lot of things in a simple, yet comprehensible, way. We want to provoke discussions on various subjects, like: the ‘Al Gore’ discussions about the environment. I do not know where it will lead, how we are going to do it, but I am very existed about it and I believe that it is an opportunity to change the world. I will keep you posted on this!
